Leaving on a jet plane....

We drove to DFW airport and Don and Janis met us there to take our vehicle. Everyone was giddy and it was the first time that excitement swept over me for what lay ahead. I had been so consumed with preparations, that I had been unable to truly think forward - and we were flying to London!! British Airways was phenomenal in their service and we were told as we checked in that they were upgrading us to World Traveller Plus class! It was amazing how blessed we felt in our travels. The kids slept great on the plane, and we all enjoyed movies, good food and wine and visiting with others. Unfortunately since our flights were both at night, we weren't able to see the ocean as clearly as during the day, but Shiloh thought it was beautiful. It was fun flying into London and seeing the castle type homes - it was evident we were in a different country! We arrived to Heathrow in the morning on London time and all wanted to find a bed! We ended up getting a day room for a few hours and felt much better. We had hoped to go out and tour London, but there just wasn't enough time. At least we got our passports stamped and found some local pounds to add to our coin collection. We ate dinner there and then it was on for another ten hours to Johannesburg.

We saw the most beautiful sunrise when we awoke on the plane over Africa. We went through customs without a hitch and all 17 boxes and pieces of luggage made it with only one small bit of damage and no loss. After a bit of delay and sleeping in the Jo'burg airport, we headed on to Durban anxious to meet our host couple. They were there with bright smiles and welcoming us in. After getting ALL of our boxes out to the parking lot we were so excited to see our new family vehicle - a Toyota Avanza van. We had to load 2 cars with our stuff and then take a taxi. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were so happy to have arrived.
