Eye See You! Field trip July 2010

We love getting together with our homeschooling friends the Palmer, Staphorst and Marcus families.
My friend Cathy, an optometrist, had agreed to give us all a lesson on the eye - and then dissect a sheep's eye for us!  We met at our church and the fun began.....

Writing Psalm 33:18 The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him...
And then came the dissection of the sheeps eye........

Who wants a turn to touch it or cut it?
The girls were the bravest!
One of my male children is noticeably absent from the table!!

Then it was off the next week to see Cathy's office and use the eye testing equipment!

The best part about field trips?  Ice Cream with friends!

Visiting the bird park with some fellow birdbrains! July 2010

We set off with the Palmers to visit the Umgeni bird park one morning.  On the way, their borrowed car broke down.  We had quite an adventure trying to get it off the side of the road.  At one point his kids were riding off in the car with a complete stranger - as we were both looking off into the distance wondering if they would ever come back!  I guess that's why this car is named "In God we trust!"  After much wrangling, and stuffing a few small children into the boot (yes only in Africa), we finally made it to our destination.  It was well worth the wait!

Silvery Cheeked Hornbill
Other random wildlife!

The bird show was fantastic - we saw this owl, a vulture, a crowned crane.

Then to end our day we entered the cage of Green-naped Lorikeets.
Some of us were more thrilled than others when the birds landed on us.

Happy Father's Day!

Father's day 2010 - a fun day!  It started off with a breakfast at Mugg and Bean, our favorite eatery.
In the middle of the meal, the phone rang and Cam and Shiloh had free tickets to a World Cup match that night!   The excitement was uncontainable!

Then it was off to see Toy Story 3 in 3D.  I think the adults enjoyed the movie more than the kids - and we definitely shed a few tears at the part about the little boy growing up, giving his toys away and moving off to college.  A great reminder on a special day that life goes by so fast.....

Cam and Shi at the Nigeria vs. Japan World cup match

The day ended with the boys having an exciting taxi ride to the match and adding to the noise of the vuvuzelas as they celebrated the good life.

Happy Father's day my sweet Cam!

19 years later......

In May, we spent our 19th anniversary at the estuary house of our friends Zazz and Carryn.  Who would have thought all those years ago that we'd sit gazing on this part of God's amazing creation?  I was struck by the pure silence of our surroundings.  No busy taxis hooting, no medical helicopters landing at the nearby hospital.  Just the sound of waves, birds and the wind. A great way to reconnect and reflect on the wonderful places God has taken us to, both physically and spiritually in our 19 year journey.
Praise God for my wonderful husband!!
