The futures market on horse ranching and husbands

We visited my mom and dad in Texas just before our move to South Africa. Ani had a conversation with my mom about their ranch in south Texas. She wanted to know if they could have horses on their 400 acres. Mom, being the gracious conversationalist that she is, entertained this discussion and Ani began filling in the details. It involved my mom and Ani moving to the ranch and raising horses together.

In the course of the discussion, mom brought up the need for a horse trailer and asked how were they going to move the horses there? Well, that didn't stop Ani. She was certain that someone would donate a trailer if she just asked. So as soon as we got to South Africa, she spent 2 days making loads of signs like these pictured above. Then she mailed them to my mom and asked her to post them at the ranch road where it intersects the highway. Not to be forgotten, almost every time we call, Ani asks about these signs and if anyone has donated a trailer yet. I guess that's why we're told in Matthew 18 : And Jesus said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Great is their faith when they believe!

Ani had been telling me for the last year that she was never going to marry, but would move to Nevada to raise wild horses. I like the modified plan that includes living with her grandmother in Texas much better! There may be hope, however, as today Shiloh asked Ani, "What is your last name going to be when you grow up?" to which she replied without hesitating, "Whatever my husband's name is." Then Shiloh said, "well, you know you don't have to take his name, you can keep your own..." Then the thoughtful hmmmmm.

This makes me think of that Christian song by Wayne Watson, "Somewhere in the World Today" where the dad is praying for the future wife of his little boy. If you haven't heard it, it's worth listening to. "I don't even know her name, but I'm praying for her just the same, that the Lord will write his name upon her heart. That somewhere in the course of this life, my little boy will need a godly wife, so hold onto Jesus, baby, wherever you are." So tonight I say a prayer for all of my sweet children and their future life companions and wonder - were my mom and dad saying this prayer, too, when I was little? Hmmmmmmm.......
