20th Anniversary Phinda Game Reserve

This year was our 20th anniversary. Thanks to a really generous gift from our friends, we were able to go to a private game reserve for 2 nights. When we arrived we were treated to a beautiful gourmet lunch overlooking the bush and the nyala grazing below.

This is the path to our room.

Guess these guys have never seen a rifle! Very tame.

At 4 pm we were invited for tea and our first game drive.
In our Land Rover were 3 businessmen from South Carolina and a travel agent.
The tracker is on the front and our ranger is the driver.

Our first turn onto the road spotted us this cheetah. Our tracker was beside himself happy!

After a bit of touring, we took a stop for a leg stretch and some refreshments.
We tried not to think about what might be lying in the bush.
Fantastic new drink - Hot chocolate with Amarula and snacks of biltong, dried fruit and seeds

The next day was our actual anniversary - we were really hoping to see Lion today as I had never seen one in the wild.
Unfortunately they weren't so cooperative.
But we did see a beautiful sunrise and this rare specimen - genet cat.

African Hoopoe

On the last night we were so blessed to find a rare leopard!
He was stunning and terrifying.
