There's nothing like being in Texas on Independence Day in the USA.
Growing up it was always an extra special day because it was my brother David's birthday. As a kid he always thought the traditional fireworks celebrations were because everyone was celebrating HIS birthday. Little did he know it was the birth of the country we were celebrating.
David with his favorite gift ever - his Harley Davidson.
Every year on 4th of July we would go to my mom's home town of Bristol to celebrate.
This year we enjoyed going back.
The day always started off early in the morning with a parade. This rural town of 400 would pull out all the stops as the fire truck and local beauty queen in her convertible would ride in the parade. They would be followed by locals on horseback carrying beautiful USA and Texas flags, and then all of the kids riding their bikes completely decorated in red, white and blue. As kids we would always line the street waiting for the candy to be thrown to us. The photo above was my absolute favorite of the parade this year - the classic American little red wagon pulled by their grandpa on a 3 wheeled bike!
Great times spent sitting on the front porch visiting.
Later that night we joined Cam's parents for a stunning fireworks celebration.
