Our summer break started in December with the celebration of S's 10th birthday. The Doves hosted us for a pool party and it was a fun day!

We also spent some time at the beach enjoying the hot weather and beautiful Indian Ocean. This season has been abundant with jellyfish and blue bottles. W and A have both been stung and had swollen legs for a week! Luckily the ones we found this day were already dead, so we had a fun time holding the jellies. All the kids (and Vernon) built an awesome sand castle/fort. Even though we were only out for 4 hours in the morning and had on spf30, the kids and I were burned so badly. It took days to get to feeling better. When the sun comes up at 4:30 am, the sun is intense by mid morning!

Our friends, The Doves, offered to let us house sit while they were away on holiday. We were so thrilled to have a wonderful place to spend for the week. We enjoyed their beautiful gardens, pool, tennis courts, and had many lovely meals on the verandah. It was fun to watch tv again and read all of their magazines and newspapers! We had such a great time loving on their sweet pets - Mozzarella the cat, Poppi and Bovril the dogs. It was truly a restful and relaxing week.
We enjoyed spending time with friends and socializing. Our friends the Laubschers invited us over for our first traditional Potjiekos Stew cooked in the traditional 3 legged cast iron pot over a fire with oxtail and vegetables. Eileen gave us an impromptu photo shoot in her home studio and the results were beautiful! We had a great time visiting our friends, and except for the bread being stolen by the vervet monkey and almost burning the house down with a candle, it was a perfect evening!!
Our friends, the Sabos, came to visit us from their mission work in Johannesburg and we had a great week together. S and Cam spent the week at Hebron Haven for the church youth week. The other kids and I had a fun time exploring the Gateway mall, catching an IMAX movie and browsing shops. I went for a massage and A and I had pedi's with our friend Lindsay.
Then the P2P (Prepare2Preach) team arrived and it was on to fun events like Holiday clubs and soccer camps with Cam in the townships. And even though it was weird to have summer break at the end of the year, around Christmas time and only for 5 weeks, it was full of many fun adventures and time spent with great friends!
