Our friends from Missouri, U.S.A. have been in Johannesburg doing mission work for a few months. We finally got to meet up with each other over the Christmas holidays. It was great to catch up and spend time together sharing our mission experiences and adventures. We headed out to Umdloti beach which was a beautiful beach with massive waves! The kids could hardly stand up in the water.

We visited the new Moses Madhiba soccer stadium together for the first time
and rode the skye car up to the top.

New Year's Eve was quite an adventurous night. We headed over to the Westville church to spend the evening playing games and braaing (that's bbq'ing for you Americans!). After a crazy hat contest, games and singing in the new year, we headed home. On the way home at 1 in the morning, the mission vehicle that the Sabos were driving broke down on the side of the road, started smoking and sounding the alarm. Thankfully, a nice guy stopped to help Cam and Jonathan get the car where it would stop sounding the alarm. The kids slept through all of it! Then our friend Mark came in the middle of the night and helped them tow it back to the house. Finally by 3 am, everyone was home and safe!
We headed out to do some local souvenir shopping at the Vic Street Market. This market has everything from spices to local African crafts. Most of the gifts we buy to bring back are from here. S was especially excited when we headed to the Marketplace and found his Liverpool soccer jersey for a quarter of the price he'd seen it elsewhere. Jonathan bargained down the salesman and he came home with a great deal!

Indian spices

We were treated to a fabulous authentic Indian dinner at Gateway to India on our last night with them. Poor S wasn't feeling well, so he didn't get to eat much, but the rest of us chowed down on wonderful samplings of Indian cuisine.

We were so blessed to have this time with our friends. They've headed back home now, but we'll always remember our special week together in Durban. If you'd like to take a look at their mission activities, check out their blog below. Jonathan's an awesome photographer and there are some amazing pics of their journey.
