Midmar Mile 2010- Go Team Bethel!

We trekked out to the Natal Midlands today to watch the largest open water swim meet in the world - the Midmar Mile 2010.  More than 16 000 swimmers were expected to take to the water this weekend in the event, recognised by the Guinness Book of Records last year as the largest open-water event of its kind. Our church had a stunning team of swimmers.  We piled 19 people into a van to get over to the starting line, which was monumental in itself!  Many of the team were experienced "milers" but a few made their debut this year.

The race was a bit delayed as an 84 year old woman was finishing from a previous race.  I say if an 84 year old woman can swim the Midmar mile, then we all owe her the respect of standing around in her honor!!  While we were waiting, the support team kept themselves busy.

Matt, Adam and Josh observed from the shoreline.

Others observed the strange outdoor urinals, debating if they were brave enough to try them out.

And the girls decided to start practicing for their modeling career!

FINALLY, the race was on!

Team Bethel was successful and although the swimmers were camera shy, we were able to get a shot of these humble participants Craig and Zazz, who graciously allowed their lovely wives to precede them to the finish line!  We also see one of the other newcomer family finishers,
Bianca, in the left background.

All in all it was a great day.  We're proud of our awesome swimmers!!
Go Team Bethel!
